ANSWER: Following the “Dark Ages,” (A period of time lasting for several hundred years through the fourteenth century), men like Martin Luther and others began the task of trying to “reform” the apostate Catholic Church. They were unsuccessful in this attempt and created an atmosphere in which denominationalism had it’s rise. More recently, primarily during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, men on both sides of the world began to simultaneously, through the providence of God, realize the need to restore New Testament Christianity to it’s original design and intent. These men had realized that the “Reformation” was a failure and, thus, began what was to become known as the “Restoration Movement.” The success of this effort is seen in the many churches of Christ (Romans 16:16) which now circle the globe!
