When songbooks are available, individuals, by focusing on the words of the book, can tonefully recite these words in concert with the rest of the congregation and, in this way, worship God scripturally. Most learn new songs in this way. However, sometimes it is expedient, especially when song books are not available, to set aside special times for the congregation to learn and practice “new” songs, just as one practices before reading the Scriptures to the congregation, or as the preacher practices his sermon! Many times as individuals and congregations we often fail to adequately prepare for properly worshiping God.
