QUESTION: What covenant did God make with Abraham?

ANSWER: In Genesis 12:1-3 God first promised Abraham that He would (1) make of Him a great nation and (2) that in him would all nations of the earth be blessed. This promise was repeated to his son Isaac (Genesis 26:1-50 and his grandson Jacob (Genesis 28:13-14). The blessing to all nations through Abraham was wonderfully fulfilled in Christ. “Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ” (Galatians 3:16).

When one is born again (baptized into Christ) he has put on Christ (Galatians 3:26-27). (Note that one does not put Christ on before baptism!) “And if ye are Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Galatians 3:29). This passage shows how we become heirs and are blessed through the Seed of Abraham!
