QUESTION: Would the person described in the above question have to live as a single person the rest of his or her life?
ANSWER: This person would have to remain single or return to his first wife! A person may be married a second time upon the death of their spouse (Romans 7:1-3) or if he or she is the totally innocent party in a previous marriage having divorced his or her spouse “for the cause of fornication” (Matthew 5:32; Matthew 19:9). Except for these two reasons, “second marriages” are nothing more than adulterous relationships. All participants who continue in such will not inherit the kingdom of God (I Corinthians 6: 9-11).
