QUESTION: If you kiss someone other than your own husband or wife, is it a sin?

ANSWER: Some kisses may be sin. Others may not. In some countries kisses are a form of greeting or bidding another farewell! These are not motivated by unlawful desires and would not be sinful. This was the case in New Testament times. For example: Paul in Romans 16:16 said, “Salute one another with an holy kiss.” Other kisses may be motivated by unlawful desires or engaged in to promote such. This type of kiss would be in violation of Colossians 3:5 (uncleanness, inordinate affection, and evil desires) and would, therefore, be sinful. The faithful child of God will avoid such and set his or her affections on things above (Colossians 3:2).
