QUESTION: What is the meaning of denominationalism and denomination?

ANSWER: Denominationalism refers to a dividing into denominations. To denominate is to separate a part from the whole; to assign a different name! The word denomination then properly refers to the various religious sects in the world today, such as, Baptist, Pentecostal, Methodist, etc. These divisions are sinful, being contrary to the word of God (See John 17:20-23; I Corinthians 1:10-13; I Corinthians 3:1-4). Christ built only one church (Matthew 16:18; Ephesians 4:4; Colossians 1:18, 24); the church of Christ (Romans 16:16)!
