SINS OF GOOD PEOPLE IN THE CHURCH
I. INTRODUCTION
1. There are three kinds of people in the fellowship of the church:
(1) Good people as God counts goodness, who have obeyed the gospel,
and are faithful Acts 2.47; )ft. 16:16; Heb. 5:9.
(2) Those who are morally good, but are not faithful to the Lord. 1
Cor. 3:1; Rev. 3:14-19.
(3) Those who have backslidden or apostatized, and become bad people.
2 Pet. 2:20-22.
II. SOME SINS COMMITTED BY GOOD PEOPLE IN THE
CRURCH.
1. Omission of duty is a sin committed by many good people in the
church. Jas. 4:17; Judg. 5-23; Matt. 25:31-46.
2. Rev. 2:4, 5. Some in the church should repent of the sin of losing
their first love. (Like some newly-married couples.)
3. Rev. 3:14-19. Some good people in the church should repent of their
sin of lukewarmness. They have lost their zeal and enthusiasm. Tit.
2:11-14.
4. Good people in the church are sometimes guilty of the ,sin of
violating the Golden Rule. Matt. 7:12. Examples.
5. Lk. 8:13. Some good people in the church have only surface religion.
They are sure to become unbelievers later. Heb. 3:12.
6. Lk. 8:14; Mk. 4:18, 19; Matt. 13. Some good people
in the church choked with cares, riches, pl of this life, etc.
III. THERE ARE MANY SINS COMMITTED BY GOOD
PEOPLE ZN THE CHURCH.
1. Some good people in the church compromise and dis obey certain truths
to please their kin. Matt. 10:35-38; Lk. 12:51-53; Jude 3.
2. Some good people in the church are contentious and quarrelsome
in the church, at home, etc. 2 Tim. 2:2426; Jno. 8:1-11.
Jesus was kind and gentle to the woman. 2 Cor. 10:1.
3. Some good people in the church are guilty of the
of covetousness. They study money - Money MONEY! Col. 3:5;
Eph. 5:5; Matt. 6:19, 20; Acts 20: 35.
4. Some mood people in the church are discourteous, and
manifest an ugly spirit. 1 Pet. 3:8. They snub and " high-
hat " others.
5. Some good people in the church are guilty of the sin of
envy. They dislike others who are being honored, or are
better off in some way. Elder son. Lk. 15:11-31.
6. Some good people are guilty of the sin of loving the pre-
eminence - craving places of high honor, regard. less of
fitness. Matt. 23:1-9; 3 Jno. 9, 10.
7. Some good people are guilty of the sin of burying their
talents. Matt. 25:14-30; Gal. 6.10.
8. Some good people sin in failing to bridle the tongue and to
control the temper. Jas 1:26; Prov. 15:1; CoL 3:8, 9.
9. Some of them are too critical of other people. )ft. 14: 1-6;
Matt 7:1-3.
IV. CONCLUSION:
1. If the foregoing good people in the church are doing these
things, and are failing to repent, they willbe condemned.
Heb. 10:26.
2. They should remember to repent. Rev. 2 4, 5; 3:19; 1 Jno.
1:9; 2 Pet. 3:9; Acts 17:30, 31.
