THE CHURCH AT THYATIRA
(Rev. 2:18-29)
1. INTRODUCTION. Verse 18.
A. The speaker is the Son of God-jno. 3:16-with God's
gift and ways-jno. 3:16; 14:6. He is God's spokesman and
man's Saviour. Matt. 1:21.
B. "Eyes like a flame of fire." Eyes that can penetrate and see
everything. Heb. 4:13.
C. "Feet like fine brass"-tread down the evils ("The feet of
Chalcolibanus") to cnah.
1. Some evils in the church can't be dealt with lightly.
.D. Must be burned and trampled down. The perfection of love
makes it stern and severe against evil-"I know thy works."
II. WHAT WAS RIGHT WITH THIS CHURCH? Verse 19.
A. Love-The fountain from which flows true activities. Gal.
5:6; I Cor. 13.
B. Faith-Without it, our worship is ritualistic, and our
works mere social service. Heb. 11; jas. 2:14-26.
C. Service-Both religious and moral.
D. Patience-Steadfastness. I Cor. 15:58.
E. The last to be more than the first." A growth in works-
a spiritual growth. I Pet. 2:2; .11 Cor. 4:16.
Ill. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS CHURCH? Verse 20.
A. Thou sufferest that woman Jezebel."
1. Should have withdrawn from her. I Cor. 5:2-13; 11
Thess. 3:6.
2. "Called herself a prophetess."-a teacher.
a. The church had made a poor selection, and wasn't
doing anything about it.
D. Teaching false doctrine which leads to corrupt lives-see
verse 24. The depths of &tan."
IV. ADMONITION. Verses 24, 25.
A. Hold fast the Saviour, worship, service, etc.
B. "Till I come."
V. THREAT. Verses 21-23.
A. "I gave her time to repent."
B. "I will cast her into a bed." Infliction of punishment.
C. "I will kill her children with death."
I. Her adherents will be destroyed. Rom. 1:32.
D. "Will give unto every one of you according to your works."
II Cor. 5:10.
VI. PROMISED REWARD. Verses 26-29.
A. Promise to those who keep His works unto the end.
1. These will have power (authority) over the nations.
